Here’s one for fans of the late, great Unsolved Mysteries (and the still-crankin’, not quite as great Ghost Hunters): A photograph taken in 1997 at the French cemetery where Doors frontman Jim Morrison is buried features a ghostly apparition that appears to be Morrison. Are you with us? We may lose you here: the photo has been deemed authentic, the U.K.’s Daily Express reports (via Spinner). The snapshot shows rock historian Brett Meisner standing next to Morrison’s grave at the Pere Lachaise cemetery, and in the background, there’s a white figure with its arms seemingly outstretched. Apparently, Morrison did break on through to the other side.

The Doors’ lasting legacy: photos.

The ghostly image went unnoticed by Meisner until 2002, when he spotted the strange blur and had the photo analyzed. In a book called Ghosts Caught on Film 2: Photographs of the Unexplained, researchers say the photo was in no way manipulated, and also rule out any possibility that it’s merely a trick of the light. The image itself is “unexplainable,” researchers said.

Meisner says now that he regrets going to the Pere Lachaise cemetery because he’s been plagued by eerie events ever since. Meisner tells the Daily Express that his marriage broke down and a close friend died of a drug overdose, and now he’s haunted by people who approach him to say that Morrison’s ghost is haunting them. “At first it was sort of interesting to see how many people felt a spiritual bond with Jim and the photo, but now the whole vibe seems negative,” Meisner said.

As anyone who read one of the many books on Morrison or saw Oliver Stone’s The Doors would tell you, Morrison believed he encountered the ghost of a Native American after witnessing a car accident in his youth in an incident that deeply impacted the singer. In fact, the lyrics to “Peace Frog” feature the lines, “Indians scattered on dawn’s highway bleeding, ghosts crowd the young child’s fragile eggshell mind,” which was Morrison’s account of the encounter. So it’s fitting that nearly three decades after his death, Morrison would appear as a specter in a photograph.

OK, OK, there’s absolutely no way to prove whether Morrison’s ghost is actually traipsing around his grave site, but we predict the Lizard King’s resting place is about to get a lot more visitors in the next few months.

Leona Lewis was reportedly punched in the side of the head during a book signing today in London, Yahoo! U.K. reports. Lewis was at Piccadilly Circus to sign copies of her autobiography Dreams when, 90 minutes in, “a guy came up and punched her to the side of the head,” Lewis’ spokesperson said. Initial reports indicated Lewis was slapped, but her spokesperson, who witnessed the attack, said the altercation was more severe than that. According to witnesses at the signing, the incident was “unprovoked,” with the suspect reportedly approaching Lewis to have his book signed, and after she looked up following the signing, the suspect punched her.

Police were quickly called to the scene and arrested an unnamed man “following reports of an assault against a female.” Witnesses tell the BBC that the suspect was “laughing” while security wrestled him down following the incident. Lewis, who suffered bruising on the side of her head, was so “shaken” by the incident that she was forced to cancel the remainder of the signing. Thankfully, she did not require hospital care, but she did cancel a BBC appearance scheduled for later that day.

Lewis recently performed as part of VH1’s Divas special in New York. See photos from the event here.

Police will reportedly review their investigation into the 1969 death of the Rolling Stones’ guitarist Brian Jones after uncovering new evidence related to the case, the BBC reports. Jones was found dead in his swimming pool in East Sussex in 1969, just months after leaving the Rolling Stones at age 27. While the coroner originally ruled that Jones had drowned while under the influence of drugs and alcohol, it’s long been rumored that he was possibly murdered.

Behind the Rolling Stones’ 1969 U.S. tour: Photos including some of Brian Jones’ final shots with the band.

Police decided to reexamine the case after 600 pages of documents regarding Jones’ death were handed over to authorities by investigative journalist Scott Jones, the AP reports. Scott Jones — no relation to Brian — reportedly spoke to Janet Lawson, the woman who discovered Brian Jones’ body on July 2nd, 1969. Lawson, who died last year, told Scott Jones that before Brian’s death, she saw the guitarist and builder Frank Thorogood fooling around in the pool. Soon after, Lawson saw Thorogood shaking badly as he reentered the house, and then she found Jones in the pool.

Look back at more musicians lost before their time.

Thorogood was also the central suspect in a pair of 1994 books about Jones’ death. In Who Killed Christopher Robin?, Terry Rawlings writes that Thorogood took responsibility for killing Jones on his death bed in 1993, telling Rolling Stones’ driver Tom Keylock, “It was me that did Brian. I just finally snapped.” Keylock died last month. Why the police will reexamine the case now following Lawson’s statements as opposed to Thorogood’s statements from his death bed remain unclear.

What are the best books/CDs/DVDs for learning good singing techniques, across a range of vocal styles? I’m looking for books to become part of a small recording studio’s informal lending library. A lot of people are coming in with no formal vocal training, which can result in a lot of really terrible habits – bad phrasing, no control over belting, etc. I’d like to have a few good books/CDs/DVDs handy to refer to, both to help the producer (who has no vocal training either) give constructive advice, and for singers to peruse on their own if they want. Something pertinent to rock and/or folk singing would be most useful, but a wide variety of music styles get recorded here, so vocal genre shouldn’t be a limiting factor in recommending good books.

I’m doing a search of Amazon reviews at the moment, but personal experience/recommendations would be really helpful.
