Quite a few tomorrows later, my August challenge entry. Better late than never, right? Didn’t even get started until mid-September, then had nothing but trouble figuring out new skills & equipment* and getting the voices down. I’d wanted to do a high voice in the second verse and both together in the third, but I couldn’t pull it off. Hopefully the end result is OK, but I can see I’ve got a lot of work ahead if I’m going to pull off an RPM Challenge CD this February.

This is the first time I’ve programmed drums myself; in the past I’ve used loops for anything I’ve done without the band. I’m not really happy with how it turned out, but I was getting bogged down futzing with it so I let it be. If anyone can point me toward some info on programming beats, particularly basic rock styles, I’d really appreciate it. I have a Axiom 25 keyboard and used Ableton Live to do the beats.

Another one from the deep archives, and yet very much in tune with the monthly challenge. Originally credited to LSD49, it’s an edit of an edit of a remix of an extended jam. I co-produced it, did the editing, played some keyboards, vocalized. Others who are now far too responsible to be named played various guitars, keyboards, samplers, percussives. I seem to recall that OJ was still on the lamb at the time of the initial jam, and maybe a week later there was a massive hockey riot in downtown Vancouver.

This edit is thus far unique to MeFi and includes a few brand new sound fx. Close your eyes. Don’t talk to the man in the green coat.

Pirates For Sail proudly presents this track from their upcoming second CD, Band on the Rum! This is our version of the traditional shanty “Rolling Down to Old Maui.” But of course we’re pirates, not whalers, so we’ve bumped up the old song to a rollicking tempo and given it a whole new life with fresh lyrics and lead vocals by Black Dog Nate (that’s me!).
